Breakout logistics checklist

  • Fix the outcome first: how many breakouts, how long, what each group produces.
  • Paste the attendee list once and reuse it across every tool on this page.
  • Announce teams with the result on screen — the visible draw ends the shuffling debate.
  • Keep a reshuffle in your pocket for late arrivals and no-shows.

Workshop grouping FAQ

How do I split thirty people into breakout teams fairly?

Paste the attendee list into the random team generator, choose the number of teams, and project the result. A visible random draw is faster than counting off and easier to defend than hand-picking.

Should teams be balanced by skill or seniority?

Pure random works for icebreakers and short exercises. For working sessions where output matters, generate randomly first, then swap one or two people per team to level skills — the draw still does most of the work.

How long should each breakout round run?

Fifteen to twenty minutes for discussion breakouts, five for speed pairings, and station rotations of eight to twelve minutes per stop. Announce the time box when you announce the teams.
